How the Yemen conflict began

The war in Yemen has its origins in the failure of a political transition following the 2011 Arab Spring.

The uprising forced out long-time president Ali Abdullah Saleh and triggered a complicated struggle for power between his supporters and Houthi rebels, who became and remained allies until conflict and fighting between the two sides unfolded last week.
